Did you know that 80% of your immune system is in your gut?
Scientists have learned that there is an intricate interplay between the bacteria in your gut (intestinal microbiota) and many aspects of your physical and mental health.
But we need your help to understand it even better. By examining stool samples, we can observe how diet and nutrition influences this inner health powerhouse, and develop new ways to fight cancer and other diseases.
Could good food help prevent diseases like colon cancer?
We’ve launched the AMBROSIA study to find out!
Diet is one of the greatest influencers of the gut microbiome, and certain microbes have been associated with certain diseases, including cancer.
Interventions that can repair balance to the microbiome and foster healthier inner ecosystems might help reduce cancer risk.
Don’t worry, donating poop is easy! We will give you an easy-to-use kit with prepaid shipping. And you don’t need to leave your home to participate in the study.
We’re seeking volunteers with one or more of the following:
⭕ A personal or family history of colon cancer
⭕ Worrying colonoscopy results
⭕ Lifestyle risk factors such as habitual smoking or drinking, or those who are overweight
Participants will be randomly assigned to one of four groups (see below). They will all be asked to fill out some questionnaires about diet, lifestyle and basic health information, and to send in a stool sample at the beginning and end of the five-month study.
People in this group will maintain their usual diet routine.
People in this group will receive medical nutrition therapy, which will consist of one-on-one access to a Kroger Health registered dietician, who will check in on you once a month for 30-minute consultation calls.
People in this group will receive a combination of probiotics and prebiotics, collectively referred to as symbiotics. They will be shipped a 120-day supply of supplements, with dosing instructions.
People in this group will receive both nutritional therapy and treatment with symbiotics. Similar to those in Group 2, they will have regular chats with a Kroger Health dietician, while also taking dailt supplements.
